Always There needs Employees' Signature Assistance & Support the Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act.

Please help Always There and other Home Health Care Agencies by clicking on this link and support the  Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act Re-Introduced in the House of Representatives. Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and others are currently prohibited from ordering home care services.  The following legislative bills would allow them to do so.  Please contact your legislators and asked them to support them.

House. Reps. Allyson Schwartz (D-PA) and Greg Walden (R-OR) have re-introduced the Home Health Care Planning. Improvement Act (H.R. 2267) in the U.S. House of Representatives.  H.R. 2267 (S. 227) would allow advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), nurse practitioners (NPs), clinical nurse specialists (CNSs), certified nurse midwives (CNMs) and physician assistants (PAs) to order home health services under Medicare in accordance with state law.

Medicare has recognized the independent practice of APRNs for nearly two decades, and these health care professionals now provide the majority of skilled care to home  law has kept APRNs from signing home health plans of care and from certifying Medicare patients for the home health care benefit.
In areas where access to physicians is limited, this prohibition has led to delays in health care delivery, which can lead to increased cost to the Medicare system when patients are unnecessarily left in more expensive institutional settings.

Rep. Schwartz has introduced this bill in the last two Congresses. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Kent Conrad (D-ND) introduced the Senate companion bill (S.227) earlier this year.

Always There's Community Booths for April 2011

On April 16 & 17 ~ Saturday and Sunday ~
Always There is joining the Kiwanis Classic in Kingston.

Quoted from the Daily Freeman...

Race director and Kiwanis member Greg Riley provided an update about the April 17 race, which will celebrate its 29th anniversary after the one-year hiatus.

The race will start on North Front St. and continue through the streets of uptown Kingston, then out to Hurley Ave. for a turnaround back to the finish at Dietz Stadium. Organizers also decided to keep the 2.1-mile fun run.

Riley reiterated the club’s vision to make the Classic a complete community event, not just another weekend road race.

“We want it to be fun for the whole family and something that people will stay around for all day long,” he said. “We want to showcase Kingston and help to stimulate the economy a little. We’re all about raising money to put back into the community, especially through youth programs.”

Riley said the Kiwanis Club provided 20 $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors at Kingston and John A. Coleman Catholic highs in the recent past. He said the club would like to expand that to include high school cross country runners who would receive a scholarship on athletic merit for use at the college of their choice.
Riley reiterated the club’s vision to make the Classic a complete community event, not just another weekend road race.

The expo would actually span both days, continuing into Sunday, and possibly including vendors and exhibitors who were interested in one or two-day commitments."... for more on this article, click on the link above.

Throughout the year ~ Always There and its team of dedicated staff give back to the community by booths, volunteering or donating. The Kiwanis Klassic is just one of those many events. Come and visit our booth and support some great causes!

Visit the KIWANIS CLASSIC site or ALWAYS THERE.

Always There has a booth at the Gardiner Cupcake Festival ~ May 15th, 2011

Every year, Always There participates in community
events through Ulster and Dutchess Counties.
One of the many events, is the GARDINER CUPCAKE FESTIVAL.
Sunday, May 15th 2011 ~ Gardiner, NY ~ 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
This is a great local community event filled with goodness ~ cupcakes, music and great people.

The one rule to this great event is that any booths (non-food) have to be cupcake themed and have cupcake items. So, Always There has come up with the Always There Cupcake Pinwheels.

The clients at the Adult Day Program are having a grand time decorating the frosting on the cupcakes and making pinwheels. After each one is colored with love and care ~ the clients painstakingly sign their name on the pinwheel. They will be on display and will be given away at the Festival.

Would you like to become involved or know more about Always There?
Then visit our website at http://www.alwaystherehomecare.org/

Alzheimer's Disease ~ The Symptoms

Alzheimer's is a brain disease that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks.

Symptoms

The most common early symptom of Alzheimer's
is difficulty remembering newly learned information.

Just like the rest of our bodies, our brains change as we age . Most of us eventually notice some slowed thinking and occasional problems with remembering certain things. However, serious memory loss, confusion and other major changes in the way our minds work may be a sign that brain cells are failing.
The most common early symptom of Alzheimer's is difficulty remembering newly learned information because Alzheimer changes typically begin in the part of the brain that affects learning. As Alzheimer's advances through the brain it leads to increasingly severe symptoms, including disorientation, mood and behavior changes; deepening confusion about events, time and place; unfounded suspicions about family, friends and professional caregivers; more serious memory loss and behavior changes;
and difficulty speaking, swallowing and walking.

There are many conditions can disrupt memory and mental function. Anyone experiencing significant memory problems should see a doctor as soon as possible. For more information on Alzheimer's please visit our SUPPORT GROUP LINK or the HUDSON VALLEY CHAPTER of the ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION.

Please feel free to leave comments or questions and we will respond within 24 hours.
